What My Southeast Asian Lady Owner Has Learned about Seasonal Decorating

  1. Because seasons change, decorations also do. Please understand, she only had two seasons back in her home country. Nobody ever changes anything.

  2. It’s ideal to have wall colors that can adapt to changes in decorations and the amount of sunlight and darkness due to the different seasons.

  3. Temperature matters—it decides what bed coverings one can put on one’s bed. And what color.

  4. People move stuff around. When Christmas decorations have gone in, people hide tropical-looking houseplants elsewhere.

  5. People have TONS of decorative ornaments depending on the season. Therefore, they also have TONS of plastic boxes containing these ornaments. Therefore, their house has to be big enough in order to keep all these ornaments when not in use.

  6. When one’s toddler is big enough, he/she might want his/her own Christmas tree.

  7. Some cats don’t climb on Christmas tree. And Lady Owner are grateful for hers.

My Owners’ cat.

8. It’s totally okay to have cheap-looking main tree that don’t really change theme from year to year. It’s totally okay that one’s tree doesn’t look like influencers’ and/or designers’ tree on social media. The most important thing is twinkly lights!!

9. It’s totally okay not to move things around depending on the seasons. It’s not necessary to hide one’s tropical-looking houseplants because not everyone has the space for it.

10. It’s totally okay not to have so many decor items because less is better for the environment anyway.

11. It’s totally okay to have mismatched Christmas color schemes for the entire house.

12. It’s totally okay not to be perfectly presentable. It’s totally okay not to be perfect, period.

13. Most important thing (okay, more important than twinkly lights in winter): togetherness and love.
