She’s Choosing the Right White… (So, Not Blue?)

The many shades of white she had put on me… yet.

Honestly, I don’t have the slightest idea of what she is thinking. For some days, my Lady Owner came to me with these little packs of white paint to test on me, even though obviously it was all futile, as I am not plastered yet. So the picture above is from when she put four shades of white on my dirty, dusty, unplastered living room wall. The night before, for the first time in her life, she found out about RAL (and she still has very little clue about it), and overall confused herself with the many kinds of white paints that the universe could offer, while reading endless tips about how to choose the right white for your house. Which, as I know more than anybody else does, is indeed many people’s problem.

Lady Owner was not prepared for this when she, against all odds, chose to have white walls in the living room instead of her favorite dark and moody hue, or just completely wacky set of colorful paints that she normally likes. To give you some idea about her, this is her current blue-and-gold living room:

But as how it goes with amateurs, she soon learned that Europe’s four seasons affected how lights fell on walls, thus changed its hue, and then they affected her moods as well (she is a moody person by default and would choose to be energized during the day in the living room instead of being moody). She also now believes that her and her husband’s many paperbacks as well as his many, many trinkets from different countries he had visited would look better with white background. Another thing that she has learned is, that choosing wall color is a delicate matter and has to be done slowly and carefully. She has to buy samples and put them on walls and stare at them for days in different times of the day, instead of what she did in the past with the current Almere apartment, which was choosing paints online from her sad student flat in London while trying to complete her Master’s degree AND pregnant.

Anyway. Apparently there are so many whites. She already knows the famous ones—Alabaster by Sherwin Williams, or Simply White by Benjamin Moore, for example. But besides being a bit too expensive for their budget right now, these brands are not available in the Netherlands. In the end she rounded up her options below:

Soft Pearl by Flexa.

Deliciously creamy white. Great coverage.

Oyster White (or sometimes Parelwit/Pearl White in Dutch)

White with more yellow undertone, but pleasant on the eyes. Lady Owner has a leftover Sikkens that she plans to test on me.

Wit by Flexa.

The most normal white there is, but is Lady Owner normal enough for it?

RAL 9010 Gebroken Wit (Broken White) by Flexa.

The mildest broken white, but still interesting enough.

Now, what do you all think? Which one is best? Let’s wish her luck.
